We conduct clinical and translational research to study the pathophysiology and outcomes of cardiovascular disease through four arms:
1. Clinical Research
We investigate cardiovascular disease and its complications from diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and pollution. We also conduct randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess cardiac interventions and contribute to local, regional, and international cohorts.
2. Epidemiological Studies
We analyze large databases and registries, including the US National Inpatient Sample (NIS) and Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD), the UK Health Improvement Network (THIN) database, and the Gulf cardiac registries (Gulf RACE, Gulf SAFE, and Gulf CARE), to study the prevalence, incidence, comorbidities, and outcomes of cardiovascular disease.
3. Genomics and Omics
We perform whole-exome and whole-methylome profiling to study risk loci, genetic variants, epigenetic changes, and population genomics. We also assess the relationship between these genetic changes and other omics, such as transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
4. Cellular and Molecular Markers
We investigate circulating microparticles and inflammatory cytokines, and use cell culture models, particularly endothelial progenitor cells and monocytes.
