I am a clinical scientist specialising in ophthalmic and neural complications of diabetes. My past and current research focuses on the use of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a surrogate endpoint of diabetic and other neuropathies. My current focus is on CCM and OCTA in multiple sclerosis, ocular rosacea, and Sjögren's syndrome.


Georgios Ponirakis

My career has been dedicated to improving the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases through corneal confocal microscopy (CCM). I have utilized CCM in diabetic neuropathy, dementia, systemic lupus erythematosus, and schizophrenia. I have co-authored 99 peer-reviewed papers and I have an h-index of 35. I am committed to education and mentorship of students at WCM-Q. I have conducted seminars and training courses to educate healthcare professionals in various countries.

I have utilised corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) in pediatric populations with obesity, T1DM, T2DM and autism at Sidra Medicine, Qatar. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy International Practice and Policy from University College London, London, UK. I have co-authored 47 peer reviewed papers.
