Welcome to Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar

Qatar National Library
Under the auspices of His Highness the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the WCM-Q building was officially dedicated by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, on 12 October 2003.
Designed by Japanese architect Arata Isosaki, the state-of-the-art building is a combination of Islamic and modern architecture.
While exploring WCM-Q, the eye is constantly drawn forward and features like the ‘Guggenheim’ an internal spiraling walkway inspired by the New York museum, ensure interest is held. The walkway itself houses a prayer room at its base, while photographs of previous graduating classes are displayed on the curved walls.
Along with the lecture halls, the North Hall is where the majority of teaching takes place. The North Hall contains the Distributed e-Library, classrooms, teaching laboratories and the state-of-the-art Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab, which allows faculty to simulate complex conditions, diseases and emergencies to which students can respond in a safe and controlled environment.
WCM-Q has approximately 25 active research laboratories focused on improving our understanding of diseases specific to Qatar and the region, including obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and neurogenetic abnormalities.
The South Hall stretches for 200 meters and is predominantly dedicated to staff and faculty. Behind the white walls you will find administration offices, faculty offices and research laboratories.
The Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab has 12 fully equipped clinical examination rooms, providing students with a realistic environment in which to meet, examine, diagnose, and treat standardized patients. Twenty-four monitoring stations allow the interactions to be directly observed by faculty members.
Technologically advanced medical manikins – lifelike patient simulators – are used in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab. The lab, the region’s first, allows faculty to simulate complex conditions, diseases and emergencies to which students can respond in a safe, controlled but fully immersive environment.
At the center of the North and South Halls lie the lecture halls, seen from the outside as ovoids and polygons. Alongside teaching, many external events take place here, designed to provide continuing professional development to Qatar’s healthcare and research communities.
The South Hall reception area welcomes you into a light and airy space which combines Islamic and modern architecture. Painted white, the college has a clinical appearance through much of the building.
The 'ovoids', which actually house lecture halls, are instantly recognisable, making WCM-Q one of the most distinctive and visually striking campuses at Education City.

Green Spine
The main structure comprises two internal 200-meter long halls linked by bridges housing faculty and student lounges. Contemporary in concept and building materials, the construction nonetheless features many references to traditional Islamic and Gulf architecture from geometric patterns on exterior and interior walls to wind towers in the courtyard.
For the most part, lectures are delivered locally by faculty based at WCM-Q, but sessions can also be relayed directly from New York to Doha and vice-versa.
The laboratories are one of the most popular teaching environments, combining theoretical and practical learning.
The classrooms try to strike a balance between faculty and students, allowing for a natural sharing of knowledge.
The seminar rooms at WCM-Q are lit with natural daylight lighting systems to take advantage of the body's natural circadian rhythm, ensuring that the college's student doctors are at their most productive.
The laboratories are state-of-the-art and are used for practical demonstrations of basic and complex scientific and biomedical principles.
The teaching laboratories are all found in the North Hall of the building, providing quick access to lecture halls and seminar rooms.
Designed like an amphitheater, the student lounge offers sandwiches, snacks and drinks for sale and is a central location to relax with friends between lectures and seminars.
The Distributed e-Library has a vast array of resources accessible to students from the college's 300 in-house computers.
A small lounge offering snacks and fresh coffee is a popular place for students, staff and faculty to relax together.
The Hamad Bin Khalifa Student Center is a resource for all students at Education City, offering facilities like fully equipped gyms.
The Student Center caters for many of the clubs that exist at WCM-Q, like football and basketball.
An array of sports can be played at the Student Center, with the facilities available to all of WCM-Q's students.
The Student Center food court comprises a range of private restaurants and takeaways, offering students a variety of choices all in one place.
The facilities at the Student Center also comprise a bowling alley and arcade, for those who prefer less strenuous forms of relaxation.
Along with restaurants and takeaways, the Student Center also houses shops selling essential items and services. A small supermarket means that students can pick up basic food and household items without having to leave campus.
The study lounge at the Student Center offers an alternative to working at WCM-Q or in the accomodation.
Oxygen Park provides a wonderful, green area adjacent to the Student Center and could be considered the 'lungs' of Education City.
Students, faculty and staff use Oxygen Park to relax and unwind without having to leave the campus. Walking and running tracks allow people to exercise while the trees offer a shady spot for a picnic.
The Green Spine is directly behind WCM-Q and provides students with an open, green area to relax with friends at the end of a day in the classroom and lecture hall. It also provides routes to other colleges and facilities within Education City.
Housing more than a million books, the visually stunning Qatar National Library is directly across the road from WCM-Q and offers a wide array of educational services and resources.
At the center of Education City stands the Ceremonial Court, used for important occasions and none more so than the QF-wide graduation ceremony.
The Recreation Center offers yet more opportunities for health and fitness, including an indoor pool alongside gyms and sports halls.
As well as sports and fitness facilities, the Recreation Center offers some administrative services.
