Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is administered, under the oversight of the Director of Research Compliance, by WCM-Q’s Facilities, Health, Safety and Security Office (FHSS). The IBC is responsible for ensuring that all research involving hazardous materials and the facilities used to conduct research are in compliance with existing government regulations, best practices/guidelines and applicable institutional policies.

Additional information is available on the WCM-Q intranet

Collaborative Research

WCM-Q encourages and facilitates collaborative research with local and foreign institutions. Investigators collaborating with other institutions also need to follow the compliance requirements of the Collaborating Institution (CI). The WCM-Q PI is responsible for coordinating directly with the CI to confirm current IBC requirements for approval and oversight at institutions other than WCM-Q. Other documentation of site-specific training, risk assessment or exemption may also be needed to demonstrate compliance.
