Proteomics

The Proteomics core provides services and support to assist investigators within WCM-Q and other institutions in Qatar or abroad, in addressing and solving the peptide and protein based challenges inherent to their research fields. This core operates a cutting edge technological platform offering users access to both nano-flow high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry and high throughput affinity based proteomics assay (SOMAscan™ technology). Besides pure analytical capabilities, the core also offers additional services, including technological consultation, experimental design optimization, custom sample preparation/analysis method development, as well as high end custom data analytical solutions.
 

Facilities

The proteomics core facility is equipped with three high resolution quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometers coupled to nano-scale ultra performance liquid chromatography systems suitable for both exploratory and targeted investigations. Additionally two nano- to micro-scale high performance liquid chromatography systems equipped with multiwavelength UV detectors and fraction collectors are employed for various sample preparation work-flows: multidimensional separation, post translational modification enrichment, etc...

Alongside the mass spectrometry based resources, the proteomics core also offers access to an affinity based high throughput targeted proteomics solution: the SOMAscan™ assay (link to WCM-Q website news). The SOMAscan™ assay, which incorporates 1129 different SOMAmer reagents, can efficiently, accurately, and rapidly measure proteins across a wide range of concentrations in small volumes of multiple biological sample types including plasma and serum. The automated version of the SOMAscan™ assay installed at WCM-Q can be configured to analyze 100 or more biological samples a day.
