Diego Lorenzetti, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biology
Kuei-Chiu Chen, PhD, Associate Professor of Biology

Dalia Zakaria, MSc, PhD, Lecturer in Biology

Fall - 4 Credits

Biology I and Biology II are a two-semester course sequence designed to consolidate major biological concepts and practices offered in a setting that includes lectures and lab sessions in both semesters.
Biology I, offered in fall semester, focuses on biochemistry and cell biology with topics on biologically important molecules, enzyme kinetics, cellular metabolism and regulation, cell theory, cell structure and function, cell signaling, and introduction to genetics. The laboratory component connects the concepts with hands-on experiments that employ modern wet-lab technology as well as simulations. Particular emphasis is placed on applying the scientific method, experimental design, statistical testing, scientific writing, and information literacy.
