Kuei-Chiu Chen, PhD, Professor of Biology

Diego Lorenzetti, PhD, Associate Professor of Biology

Dalia Zakaria, MSc, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biology

Fall - 4 Credits

Biology I and Biology II are a two-semester course sequence designed to consolidate major biological concepts and practices offered in a setting that includes both lectures and lab in each semester.
Biology I, offered in fall semester, focuses on biochemistry and cell biology with topics on biologically important molecules, enzyme kinetics, cellular metabolism and regulation, cell theory, cell structure and function, cell signaling, and introduction to genetics. The laboratory sessions connect the concepts introduced in the lectures with hands-on experiments using current wet-lab tools. These practical sessions also focus on research competency such as application of the scientific method, experimental design, statistical testing, scientific writing, and information literacy.
