Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming
Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming

News about the coronavirus outbreak continues to dominate headlines and we continue to self-quarantine to practice physical distancing. It is now more important than ever to pay as much attention to our mental health as we do to our physical health. If you have been feeling anxious, frustrated or angry, know that you're not alone. We are all in this together!

#Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing which affects how we think, feel and act. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and may cause strong emotions in adults and children. Take a deep breath and follow these tips:
  • Minimize watching news on mainstream media and social media. Limit news consumption to 5-10 minutes per day
  • If you need information, refer to reliable sources. Consume only what’s most relevant to you
  • Keep things in perspective. The most important thing you can do to help yourself and your loved ones is to follow advice for the public from a reputable source
  • Plan your day. Keep yourself busy. Create an at home routine and a schedule for remote work
  • Stay virtually connected with family and friends
  • Practice breathing and meditation
  • Be active and stay healthy at home
  • Prioritize nutrition. Key tips for adults during COVID-19: Eat fresh and unprocessed food; drink sufficient water to stay hydrated; watch your fat and oil intake; eat less salt; avoid eating outside food
  • Make time for self-care. Do something every day that makes you feel good
  • Check your thoughts. Write down positive affirmations to rewire your mindset

Also remind yourself that most people who contract COVID-19 only experience mild symptoms.
