Description

This Canvas-based course introduces students to the anatomy required to perform common clinical procedures. Instruction will involve a combination of online video demos of clinical procedures on standardized patients, and video demonstration of surface anatomical landmarks on cadavers for the practice of invasive procedures. It will be most useful to students intending to specialize in more procedural fields, such as surgery, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and interventional radiology.

Course Objectives:

1. Demonstrate the anatomical structures encountered during common clinical procedures.

2. Assess the indications and complications of common clinical procedures by doing at least one presentation every two weeks.

3. Analyze a review or research paper on each procedure.

Evaluation criteria:

1.  Students are expected to submit online essays and presentations on common clinical procedures that would demonstrate:

o    Anatomical and clinical Knowledge

o    Practice-Based Learning and Improvement: Students are expected to include an investigation and evaluation of their patient care practices by appraisal and assimilation of scientific evidence.

o    Systems-Based Practice: Students are expected to demonstrate an awareness of the larger context and system of health care and effectively call on system resources to provide optimal care.

Students are expected to take the course’s self-assessment quizzes and assignments and demonstrate mastery of the principles of relevant procedures.
