Description
|
The Sub internship in Medicine prepares the student with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to succeed as a physician, both in residency and throughout his or her career. The scientific and humanistic aspects of medicine are learned through providing direct patient care under the supervision of a staff of teaching attendings and selected senior residents. Sub interns’ function as interns, taking call and admitting alternate patients, and caring for those patients as their own.
The Sub-Intern will be on daily rounds with the consultants and residents and attend the morning reports and 11-12 (Monday and Wednesday) departmental activities.
Objectives
- Expansion of skills needed to accurately and efficiently assess, diagnose, and treat general medical conditions requiring hospitalization
- Acquisition of procedural skills necessary for immediate provision of care
- Development of problem-solving skills needed to facilitate future medical care/compliance in a patient population frequently without prior medical care
- Acquisition of system-based skills to effectively care for patients during their hospitalization and provide for a safe transition at discharge
- Improvement of communication skills to foster effective communication with patients, families, consultants, and allied health professionals.
Assessment:
Two summative comments (SPE) must be submitted by attending physicians. The Sub-I is Pass/Fail.
