Description
|
The Quality Improvement and Patient Safety elective (QIPS) is designed to give medical students experience in system based approach learning, geared to understanding core concepts in quality and patient safety. Not only will the students have didactic teaching, but also will be mentored closely on an improvement project. This will be a two week elective tailored to students whom already have experience in their clinical clerkship.
Objectives for rotation:
- Introduction to science of quality improvement in healthcare (Knowledge).
- To obtain knowledge of basic measures in quality improvement (Knowledge)
- How to design a QIPS project (Skills).
- Learn some basic tools used in quality improvement, and implement it (Skills).
- Participate in QIPS project with a core faculty (Behaviors).
Evaluation: Formative Evaluation/Direct Observation – Faculty give direct feedback to each student, and also complete a formal evaluation addressing performances in each of the six competencies.
