Description

Clerks will attend an academic primary health care teaching center daily, for up to four weeks. A Preceptor will supervise the clerks in all clinical encounters. Attendance at visiting consultant clinics as available e.g. ophthalmology, ENT, or Pediatrics, is expected up to twice a week. Ambulatory urgent care, minor procedures, wound care, parenteral therapy, and pediatric surveillance for growth and development will be undertaken, in addition to occasional educative counseling sessions for patients using the health center.

 Objectives:

  • To understand how primary health care centers function in Qatar
  • To recognize patterns of chronic disease as they present in family medicine
  • To experience pre-natal clinics, including pre-pregnancy counseling, and screening tests for higher risk patients
  • To look at patient and family centered care, striving for the "Medical Home" model
  • To familiarize oneself with commonly used medications, and understand their doses and side effects
  • To prepare a presentation based on a patient encounter to be delivered to faculty, clinical faculty, and peers
  • To undertake a file review on a topic of one's choice e.g. Blood pressure complete in male patients
  • To understand family medicine resources
  • To consider scholarship in family medicine
