This elective will allow students to understand the fundamentals of acute cardiac care of children, especially those with congenital heart disease.

• Participate in daily rounds in the cardiac intensive care unit
• Experience patient pathways from admission to discharge, experiencing first-hand deranged physiology and the impact of intensive care treatment
• Attend regular clinical meetings such as Heart Center multidisciplinary case discussions
• Learn to interpret basic physiological variables in the context of a critically ill cardiac child
• Learn to interpret chest radiographs, ECGs as well as laboratory investigations
• Opportunity to follow one or more patients and develop a case study
