Description

This elective is an immersive experience in the outpatient care of OBGYN patients with a focus on high-risk obstetric patients. Students will:

- Observe and participate in prenatal care and counseling of obstetric patients including assisting with ultrasound and amniocentesis.

- Observe and participate in care and counseling of gynecologic patients including assisting with ultrasound and minor bedside procedures.

- Develop advanced skills in the interpretation of Level 3 sonography and how to incorporate the results of these tests in the prenatal care and counseling of OB patients with complicated pregnancies.

- Expand skills in documentation, pathophysiology, recognition of obstetric and gynecological disease states and summarization of findings to formulate a reasonable plan of care in the Electronic Medical Record.

- Spend approximately 10 hours Sat-Thu attending morning and evening sessions in the Doha Feto-Maternal Center and will see an average of 50 patients per day.
