Description
|
This elective is designed to provide the student with experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in hospitalized patients. Students, under the guidance of the consultant, and team leaders, will work up all the infectious disease consultations and assist in the management of the patients. Students will have completed General Internal Medicine, ICU and CCU prior to this elective and will be expected to know how to work up patients.
Students are expected to learn to identify the common infections including viral, bacterial and parasitic disease as well as understand and apply the principles of antimicrobial therapy and treatment. Students will be evaluated based on their attendance and participation as a team member, as well as their knowledge and understanding of Internal medicine in general and infectious disease in particular. Students are expected to read on topics that pertain to their patients, and if asked should be able to present cases at rounds and conferences.
