Description
|
Description: This course is a four-week experience in clinical anesthesia intended for students with a strong interest in the specialty. It will expose students to an environment approximating that of an anesthesia intern. Students will be assigned shifts in various Hamad General Hospital operating theaters with exposure including Acute Care, Trauma, Neurosurgical, Cardiac, Pediatric, and Obstetric cases.
Activities and Learning Objectives:
By the end of this rotation students will be able to:
Conduct a pre-operative evaluation of a typical patient at the level of an PGY-1 anesthesia resident Discuss common anesthetic plans and the advantages/disadvantages of each Demonstrate competence in Bag-Valve-Mask ventilation Demonstrate competence in peripheral intravenous cannula placement Assessment:
This course will be graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
Requirements to pass the course include:
Attending all scheduled sessions Completing required patient and procedure logs Preparing a scholarly project Submitting an evaluation from an anesthesia specialist or consultant
