Description

The purpose of the clinical rotation in Acute Pain Management in adults is to aware medical students about commonly used analgesics, a concept of multimodal analgesia and various aspects of the patient with acute pain. Basic scientific and clinical aspects will be stressed. Emphasis will be on assessment of pain and different types of pain scales used in the clinical setting. Opportunity will be given to observe and participate in initiating pain medication through different routes. Where appropriate, active participation in patient care will be encouraged and students will learn about all the technique of patient-controlled intravenous and epidural analgesia.

Each student will be assigned to an Attending Anesthesiologist/Pain physician on a daily basis. They will be involved in the pain assessment, administration of analgesics, and will follow the patients in different units. Progressive participation and responsibility are given to the students. Students are expected to attend all departmental educational conferences and pain rounds.
