Position Summary

The Student Affairs Communications Assistant supports the Student Affairs team by creating engaging content that highlights student life, campus activities, and community achievements. This role is ideal for a creative and motivated student with strong writing skills who enjoys storytelling, interviewing others, photography, and digital content creation.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Research, write, and edit articles and feature stories for Student Affairs publications and communication platforms.
  • Cover major Student Affairs events, student organization activities, club events, and campus initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and staff to develop engaging feature stories.

Photography & Event Coverage

  • Attend events and activities to capture photographs and gather content.
  • Select and organize photos for use in newsletters, websites, and other Student Affairs communications.

Newsletter Development

  • Collaborate with the Student Affairs team in planning, developing, and creating newsletter content.
  • Contribute articles, announcements, event highlights, and student success stories.
  • Assist with formatting and preparing newsletters for distribution.

Recognition Features

  • Create content for recurring features such as:
    • Student Affairs Staff of the Week
    • Club of the Month
    • Student spotlights and success stories
  • Interview featured individuals and develop compelling profiles that highlight their achievements and contributions.

Digital Communications Support

  • Design visual content using Canva to support communications and promotional initiatives.
  • Assist with newsletter publishing and email communications through Mailchimp.
  • Ensure content aligns with Student Affairs branding and communication standards.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student in good academic standing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong creative writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Experience using Canva for graphic design and content creation.
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Basic photography skills and an eye for visual storytelling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Compensation

40 QAR per hour
