Al Ahli Heart Center is the largest and the most comprehensive Heart Center in the private sector in Qatar. It has all the sub-specialties of Clinical, invasive, non-invasive Cardiology, Coronary Care Units, as well as Cardio-Vascular Surgery and Cardiac Anesthesia.

Medical students will have the opportunity to be engaged in clinical teaching in clinics, CCU and wards, as well didactic sessions on important subjects, such as fundamentals of ECG, Echocardiography and Ambulatory Rhythm and BP monitoring, exercise testing. Also to attend and discuss results of Cath lab procedures, such as Coronary angiography and Angioplasty, Implantation and programming of Pacemakers and Implantable Defibrillators.

There is an active Emergency Dept, receiving wide variety of Acute patients. The center also has active 24/7 Primary PCI for ST elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI).

The Heart Center has the First “Cardio-Metabolic Unit” in the country and one of the First in the region. This means that the Cardiology and Diabetic and Dietetics clinics are closely related, under one roof.

There is also a strong link with Cardiac Radiology, such as Cardiac CT and MRI which can be attended and discussed. There is a seminar room, large auditorium with audiovisual equipment for presentations. The hospital has easy access and parking. It also has café and staff canteen.

We encourage the Medical students to have an active role in suggesting what they wish to be emphasized during their elective, from before they actually join. A meeting could be arranged BEFORE the elective to discuss student’s aims and preferences.

Student's responsibilities while on Al Ahli Cardiology Elective include the following, but we are open to any relevant activity the student might wish to do:

1.     The student will meet with the cardiology attending every morning and will either be assigned patients to see in consultation.

2.    The student could also be assigned to the non-invasive laboratory or to the cardiac cath lab for part or whole day. Patients seen in the consultation will be presented to the cardiology attending.

3.    In the Non-Invasive or cath lab, the student will be expected to observe cases and review the findings with the cardiology team.

4.    The student will have access to attend all scientific conferences in or outside the Heart Center.

5.    The student may be called upon to give presentations or present cases to the cardiology team.

6.    The student is expected to read assigned cardiology articles and present them to the cardiology team.
