Medicine Unlimited 2013

Exploring the World of Medicine at WCMC-Q

WCMC-Q opened its doors on 30 November for its flagship student recruitment and outreach event, Medicine Unlimited. Middle and high school students and their families visited the college for the annual fair, which offered the chance to discover the college’s state-of-the-art facilities, take part in interactive demonstrations and learn about careers in medicine. The main event kicked off at the nearby Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Center by a presentation given by the Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College. Later on, visiting students and parents met with faculty, current students and staff who shared hands-on simulations demonstrating a variety of medical concepts from stalls in the college’s North Hall. This year, there were a total of 20 stalls, with subjects ranging from anatomy, neurology, pediatrics and research, to physics, chemistry, biology and pathology. For the first time the event also featured a stall where prospective students could find information about WCMC-Q’s Foundation Program to learn about its content and meet with some of the current students. English writing, library and admissions faculty and staff were also represented to showcase their activities. As in previous years, Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Diabetes Association were in attendance to offer free health screenings to parents and adult participants. Medicine Unlimited concluded at 9pm, shortly after a quiz testing the knowledge the prospective students had learned during the event and a prize raffle were held at the HBKU Student Center. The event was attended by more than 600 visitors.
