Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) hosted its annual appreciation evening to recognize the valuable contributions of affiliated faculty members in teaching its medical students.
WCM-Q students complete clinical rotations under the expert guidance of physicians and healthcare professionals at affiliated institutions such as Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, the Primary Health Care Corporation, and Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital.
The instruction and mentorship provided by affiliated faculty not only equip WCM-Q students with the core practical skills they need to become world-class physicians but also help them develop their professional identities and appreciate the ethical and moral responsibilities of their roles.
Hosted by Dr. Amine Rakab, assistant dean for clinical learning at WCM-Q, the appreciation evening included speeches from Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q; Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, vice dean for academic and curricular affairs at WCM-Q; and Ms. Maryam Arabi, a fourth-year medical student (Class of 2026) and president of the Medical Student Executive Council – Qatar (MSEC-Q).

Dr. Sheikh said: “We are deeply grateful to our affiliated faculty for the expertise and guidance they continue to provide our students, both in the classroom and in the clinic. It is through their continued efforts and unwavering commitment that we are able to produce truly exceptional future physicians.”
Dr. Arayssi said: “Our affiliated faculty are valuable contributors to the teaching and mentorship of our students, and we are immensely thankful for their support. Their dedication to providing enriching practical learning experiences helps ensure that our students develop to become physicians who are outstanding on all levels.”
Dr. Mai Mahmoud, associate professor of teaching in medicine and assistant dean for faculty affairs at WCM-Q, added: “Our annual appreciation evening is a small gesture of appreciation when compared to the tremendous support our affiliated faculty offer our students throughout the year. We are very proud to be able to provide our students with access to such a high and varied level of expertise and training opportunities.”
