Student Affairs and Club Activities
October was another vibrant month at WCM-Q, filled with a variety of exciting activities. The Division of Student Affairs’ Health and Wellness team, in collaboration with the Student Wellness Society, organized ‘World Mental Health Day’ to raise awareness about mental health issues and equip students with coping skills and strategies for their wellbeing. The interactive event featured hands-on activities like crocheting, coloring, beading, gardening, and making aromatherapy rice socks. Attendees also enjoyed karak tea and hot chocolate from dedicated stations.
The Medical Student Executive Council-Qatar (MSEC-Q) spearheaded ‘Charity Week 2024,’ an initiative aimed at raising funds to support access to education for vulnerable children worldwide. In collaboration with the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), the week-long campaign featured five engaging events—Candygram & Sponge a professor, a Silent Auction, Art Day, Games Day, and Carnival Day. WCM-Q students participated in friendly competitions across Education City campuses to support the cause. Carnival Day, the highlight of the week, included various activities and games. Local vendors also donated a portion of their proceeds which will go to EAA.
The Cardiology Interest Group hosted ‘Cardio Connect: Alumni Insights & Q&A,’ a virtual event featuring Dr. Abdulla Al-Suwaidi, a WCM-Q alumnus (Class of 2024) and current internal medicine resident at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Dr. Al-Suwaidi shared his experiences in internal medicine and his passion for pursuing cardiology, offering students valuable insights and answering their questions.
In recognition of World Breast Cancer Month, the Obstetrics and Gynecology & Women’s Health Interest Group hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Event to highlight the importance of screening, early detection, and intervention. The pink-themed gathering, attended by faculty and staff, emphasized the need for regular self-exams, clinical exams, and mammograms. The Student Affairs Health and Wellness team, in collaboration with the Institute for Population Health, hosted interactive and informative stations during the event. The Qatar Cancer Society also participated, and all donations collected will go towards supporting cancer patients in Qatar.
