Dean Sheikh named among Forbes Middle East’s Top Healthcare Leaders for second consecutive year

Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar (WCM-Q), has been named among Forbes Middle East’s Top Healthcare Leaders 2026 for the second consecutive year, highlighting his leadership in medical education, research, and healthcare innovation.

The 2026 list features 100 healthcare executives who are shaping the region’s healthcare sector and leading some of its largest and most influential organizations. 

Since beginning his tenure at WCM-Q in 2010, Dr. Sheikh has overseen the development of innovative biomedical research and education programs that support WCM-Q’s mission to prepare “global physician-scientists” for the 21st century.

Under his leadership, WCM-Q has developed a world-class research infrastructure featuring laboratories with advanced capabilities in genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics. WCM-Q is also home to the Artificial Intelligence Center for Precision Health, which explores the potential of artificial intelligence and wearable technologies for the early detection and prediction of diabetes, autism, anxiety/depression, and women’s health conditions.

His work at WCM-Q also extends to population health, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. In partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Sheikh helped advance women’s health and wellness through Sehatuha, a comprehensive Arabic-language women’s health program. He is also the driving force behind LifeHub, a one-of-a-kind immersive educational experience in Msheireb Downtown Doha that promotes Qatar’s vision for a healthier, more sustainable future built on innovation and human progress.
