Awards presented at WCM-Q Class of 2017 Convocation
Awards were presented to students of the Class of 2017 who achieved academic excellence.
Graduating students of the Class of 2017 who achieved academic excellence in the foundational science courses, and clinical courses and clerkships that form the medical curriculum were presented with awards as the WCM-Q community convened for the Convocation ceremony.
Awards were also presented to faculty and house officers at the event, which was attended by faculty, staff, students and their families and friends.

Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, senior associate dean for medical education, said: “All of the graduating students of the Class of 2017 have worked extremely hard to complete their studies and we are very proud of all of them. These awards recognize those students whose performances have been of such a high standard that they merit special mention. Their dedication and their talent have been an inspiration both to their classmates and to the faculty who taught them.”
Graduating student Lina Irshaid won 12 awards, including the Excellence in the Pre-Clinical Curriculum award and the Excellence in the Clinical Curriculum award.
Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q, said: “It truly is a great pleasure and honor to be here sharing the success of our students, the tenth graduating class of WCM-Q, and to do so in the company of their families, to whom I extend a very warm welcome. This class has done remarkably well, not only in terms of their scholastic achievements but also through their many valuable contributions to research and the WCM-Q community.”
Dr. Sheikh congratulated students for matching with residency programs at world-class healthcare institutions including NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, Yale New Haven Hospital, Lincoln Medical Center in New York, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Hamad Medical Corporation.
He added: “We hope that when you have completed your training we will welcome many of you back to Qatar to serve the community here.”
