WCM-Q honors those involved in student education
Each year, the Division of Medical Education at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) hosts an appreciation evening to honor the contributions of affiliated teaching faculty involved in the education of its students. This year, the event additionally celebrated the vital roles played by healthcare professionals and supportive administrative staff.
The instruction and mentorship provided at WCM-Q equip students not only with the core knowledge and skills needed to become world-class physicians but also help them develop their professional identities and appreciate the ethical and moral responsibilities of their roles.
Throughout their education, WCM-Q students also benefit from expert guidance offered by physicians and healthcare professionals at affiliated institutions, such as Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, the Primary Health Care Corporation, and Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. WCM-Q currently has a total of 644 affiliated faculty members.
The appreciation evening included speeches from Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q; Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, vice dean for academic and curricular affairs at WCM-Q; Dr. Mai Mahmoud, associate professor of teaching in medicine and assistant dean for faculty affairs at WCM-Q; and Mohammed Khalid, a fourth-year medical student (Class of 2025) and president of the Medical Student Executive Council – Qatar (MSEC-Q). The event was presented by Dr. Amine Rakab, assistant dean for clinical learning at WCM-Q.
Dr. Sheikh highlighted the significance of the occasion: “We are immensely thankful to all who contribute to medical education for their unwavering commitment to our students. Their dedication is not only inspiring but also crucial in shaping the next generation of physicians and ensuring a healthcare system that offers exceptional medical expertise.”
Dr. Arayssi said: “Those who teach, guide, and facilitate our students’ educational journeys play a central role in creating a truly enriching learning environment. It is only through their efforts that we can fulfill our mission of producing outstanding physicians. We deeply appreciate their invaluable contributions.”
Dr. Mahmoud added: “Our annual appreciation evening serves as a small token of gratitude for the countless ways our students benefit every day. We are fortunate to be able to provide them with access to such unparalleled expertise during their education at WCM-Q.”
