Student Affairs and Club Activities – February
Med-Gala
In February, student clubs and organizations at WCM-Q participated in a number of activities, both on and off campus, with support from the Division of Student Affairs.
The Medical Student Executive Council-Qatar (MSEC-Q) hosted its annual Med-Gala to celebrate the achievements of student clubs and organizations. The glamorous event saw student leaders presented with leadership awards. Additionally, MSEC-Q organized a Class Picnic for second-year pre-medical students at Oxygen Park, where students played board games and shared a meal.
The Innovations & Technologies for Precision Health and the General Surgery interest groups organized an Entrepreneurship Training Camp, a boot camp for incoming entrepreneurs. The event featured team-building activities, design and pitch challenges, and other activities.
The WCM-Q Best Buddies chapter participated in Art With Our Buddies, an event hosted by Best Buddies Qatar at Tawar Mall. The students engaged with attendees in hands-on activities featuring different forms of art and crafts.
The Emergency Medicine Interest Group hosted Tactical Combat Casualty Care, a session that provided participants with a set of evidence-based, lifesaving guidelines used in combat medicine. The event focused on the fundamental differences between civilian and tactical trauma care and the management of preventable causes of death on the battlefield. It also equipped attendees with practical skills applicable to high-stress environments with limited resources.
The Pediatrics Interest Group organized a social and interactive Kahoot game to give students an opportunity to learn more about the group. Additionally, the Student Research Association, in collaboration with the Orthopedic Interest Group, hosted the Trauma Surgery Kahoot competition in which students tested their knowledge of trauma and emergency cases.
A number of interest groups, including the Hematology & Oncology Interest Group, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology & Women’s Health, and the Big Red Orthopedic Society, in collaboration with the SA Health and Wellness team, joined hands to organize World Cancer Day. Representatives from each specialty explained their roles in the treatment and management of cancer patients.

The Internal Medicine Interest Association organized a Myopia Awareness event to educate participants about myopia, a condition characterized by nearsightedness. The group also distributed brochures on myopia and a Snellen chart to demonstrate the first step in diagnosing the condition.
The Student Wellness Society (SWS) and the Psychiatry Student Interest Group hosted Reflective Practice to encourage medical students to reflect on their emotionally meaningful experiences. They also worked on becoming more cognizant of their emotions so they could be more informed in their professional and social interactions.
The General Surgery Interest Group organized the second episode of Surgeon Spotlight, part of its educational series, hosting WCM-Q–affiliated faculty member Dr. Ammar Al Hassani, a trauma surgeon at Hamad Medical Corporation, who spoke about his inspiring career journey.
The Student Affairs Health and Wellness Team hosted Wear Red Day, an awareness campaign that featured activities and information on how to prevent cardiovascular disease and stroke in women. Part of “Go Red for Women,” the campaign was initiated by the American Heart Association after it was highlighted that more women than men were dying from heart disease. Supported by Qatar Foundation (QF) Nutritional Clinic, the team also set up a booth, Chat With a QF Nutritionist, where students learned about healthy eating, ways to incorporate it into their daily schedules, and how to fast safely during the holy month of Ramadan. In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, the team also organized Random Acts of Kindness Day, an activity that encouraged students to engage in spontaneous acts of kindness to promote a positive environment on campus.

In collaboration with Sidra Medicine, the SWS launched the Eid for Everyone donation campaign to collect and distribute toys to children staying in the hospital during Eid Al-Fitr. To participate, WCM-Q students, faculty and staff can make gift donations at various drop-off points across the college. The campaign was initiated by the late student Aisha Kafoud, whose vision was to bring joy to children staying at the hospital during the Eid holiday period.
