International accolade for WCM-Q AI researcher
A research associate at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) has been awarded a prestigious international fellowship in recognition of his contribution to the study of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Alaa Ali Abd-Alrazaq, PhD, research associate in the AI Center for Precision Health at WCM-Q, was made a fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI).
The academy, which is part of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), serves as an honor society that recognizes expertise in biomedical and health informatics internationally. Being awarded a fellowship by the IAHSI is regarded as one of the highest honors available to professionals working in bioinformatics and AI. A new class of fellows is elected each year, based on a set of criteria that includes accomplishments in the field of biomedical and health informatics; work that has garnered local, regional and international recognition; and global engagement through research, publication, education or leadership. Dr. Abd-Alrazaq was one of only 15 fellows from around the world elected to the 2022 Class of Academy Fellows.
Dr. Abd-Alrazaq said: “I am delighted to have been elected a fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics and relish the opportunity to engage still further with the global community of biomedical and health informatics professionals. We believe our work in the AI Center for Precision Health at WCM-Q offers great potential for enhancing patient outcomes for people in Qatar and all over the world, so it is wonderful to be able to engage with the sector’s leading international academy.”
Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q, said: “All of us at WCM-Q are extremely gratified that Dr. Abd-Alrazaq has been awarded this very well-deserved fellowship by the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics in recognition of the excellence of his research in the field of AI. Dr. Abd-Alrazaq is a great credit to the AI Center for Precision Health at WCM-Q and is making important contributions to our efforts to harness the power of AI to enhance human health for all.”
Dr. William Hersh, president of IAHSI, said: “It is my distinct pleasure to announce the Academy’s Class of 2022 Fellows. On behalf of all the academy and its board, I congratulate the 2022 Class of Academy Fellows and look forward to their contributions to the academy’s ongoing initiatives, objectives and goals.”
