Awards success for WCM-Q and TAMUQ at I AM QF event

An education program for high school students developed by Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) in partnership with Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) won the prestigious Injaz Award at the recent I AM QF event, organized by Qatar Foundation (QF).

Members of the team of students and faculty from WCM-Q and TAMUQ who developed the initiative, named the Physics for Future Doctors Summer Program, were presented with the coveted award at I AM QF by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, vice chairperson and CEO of QF.

Hosted at WCM-Q, the program was offered by WCM-Q’s Office of Student Outreach & Educational Development in the Pre-medical Division and is aimed at students with a strong foundation in the basic sciences who wish to pursue careers in to pursue a career in a STEMM-relevant fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine).

The program was co-created by WCM-Q professor of physics Dr. Mohammad Yousef, and is designed to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills through interactive, practical sessions. The program was organized and led by students and faculty from both universities.

There was also success for second-year WCM-Q medical student Fatima Al-Mohammed, whose research poster on the role of a specific protein in obesity was selected for display at the I AM QF event. During the event, Fatima had the opportunity to discuss her research poster (titled Investigating the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) adaptor protein- STING in adipocyte differentiation and obesity-induced chronic inflammation) with HE Sheikha Hind.
