Description

This elective is available in either 2 or 4 weeks. In this elective students will have the opportunity to learn about basic endocinopathies as diabetes and other disorders related to the pituitary, hypothalamus, thyroid and parathyroid, and adrenal gland). This elective will expose the students to the challenges in the management of obesity and insulin resistance. Learning objectives: 1) Demonstrate appropriate history taking, physical exam, assessment, and management plan as well as interpretation of investigations, 2) Analyze data gathered accompanied by evidence-based search to support diagnosis and management plans, 3) Demonstrate ability to diagnose and differentiate between endocrine emergencies vs other endocrine related disorder status, 4) Demonstrate ability to perform, as appropriate, in an inpatient, out patient and ER related endocrinology consultation, 5) Describe how and when to do a provocative endocrine testing, 6) Describe as appropriate how to address caregivers and simplify information giving, 6) Describe understanding of insulin management as insulin pump, doses, DKA management…Students are to attend all conferences, family counseling, family and teams meetings, and consultations. Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on 1) Active participation in clinics and rounds, 2) Academic performance, 3) Clinical performance, and 3) Personal qualities
