Dr. Mahrukh S Rizvi

Class of 2011
Speciality: Internal Medicine
Mayo Clinic, Rochester

Dr. Mahrukh S Rizvi, a 2011 WCMC-Q graduate, has received the "Star Research Achievement Award" for two years in a row at the 47th and 48th international annual meeting of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). The SCCM Critical Care Congress is the largest critical care event that brings together the critical care community to collaborate and explore evidence-based developments in critical care medicine.

Dr. Rizvi was recognized for her research in the role of Midodrine, an oral vasopressor, in critically ill patients with shock. Her research brought into light the underrecognized potential of this oral medication to safely improve blood pressure in the critically ill patients. With the help of this work, she was in the forefront at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, in initiating a prospective, randomized, placebo control trial exploring the risks and benefits of oral midodrine in septic shock which is currently ongoing in collaboration with multiple centers.

After graduating from WCMC-Q, Dr Rizvi completed her residency in Internal Medicine from Rochester Regional Health Center where she was recognized with the Dr. U.C. Nigwekar Scholarship award for fostering the spirit of scholarship during residency. She then completed her fellowships in Nephrology and Critical care at University of Rochester Medical Center and Mayo Clinic, respectively.
