The Research Internship for National High School Students program for Qatari Nationals and long-term residents at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar offers ambitious young researchers, aged 16 years and above, the opportunity to spend time learning about biomedical research in a challenging and dynamic research environment.
The programs are divided into two main components:
A. Biomedical Research Management Basics
The Biomedical Research Management Basics component includes basic introductory sessions about different aspects of research management. The program’s sessions include:
- Research Operation
- Laboratory Management
- Grants Management
- Research Compliance
- Clinical Management
- Professional Skills
B. Biomedical Research Practical Training
The practical training gives interns insight into a real employee’s life. Trainees are expected to apply hands-on knowledge gained during the Biomedical Research Management Basics component of the program during their practical training. This component aims to help interns experience training in an actual research environment.
The duration of the practical training depends on the program the intern chooses from the two options below:
Research Internship (2 weeks)
This internship option is offered in the summer. Participants, with their guardians' approval, may choose between two start dates. Interns train for two weeks, Sunday through Thursday, from 9.00am to 3.00pm. Taught modules and practical training are offered and trainees are expected to take the lead in managing their time between each component.
In order to complete the program, trainees must complete the Biomedical Research Management Basics (taught modules) and the Biomedical Research Practical Training. At the end of this program, interns receive a certificate of completion for the Research Internship option, plus 50 volunteer hours.
Dates: June 12th to 23rd, 2022
Intensive Research Internship (4 weeks)
This internship option is offered in the summer. Participants, with their guardians' approval, may choose between two start dates. Interns train for four weeks, Sunday through Thursday, from 9.00am to 3.00pm. Taught modules and practical training are offered and trainees are expected to take the lead in managing their time between each component.
In order to complete the program, trainees must complete the Biomedical Research Management Basics (taught modules) and the Biomedical Research Practical Training. At the end of this program, interns receive a certificate of completion for the Intensive Research Internship option, plus 100 volunteer hours.
