Profile
Dr. Ali Chaari holds a degree in engineering biology from the National Engineering School in Tunisia and a PhD in biochemistry and biophysics from Versailles University, France where he studied the regulation of amyloid aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases. Subsequently, he conducted postdoctoral biochemistry research training at WCM-Q in the laboratory of Dr. Moncef Ladjimi.
During his PhD in France, Dr. Chaari began teaching biochemistry and molecular biology as a teaching assistant and also as a temporary assistant of education and research (ATER). When he joined WCM-Q as a post-doc he volunteered to teach first-year medical students. In 2015, Dr. Chaari decided to dedicate more time to teaching, so he joined the biology support teaching team in the Division of Pre-medical Education.
In addition to his teaching role as a teaching specialist for biology and biochemistry courses, he is involved in several outreach programs and contributed to the development and delivery of the new pre-medical biochemistry curriculum. In the future, besides his current teaching duties, he will be developing and teaching a new biochemistry course.
Dr. Chaari is experienced in biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics. In 2015, he was awarded a grant from Qatar National Research Fund to lead a study on chaperone interaction with amylin peptide in type 2 diabetes. He has co-authored several original research articles, written two books and has presented his work at several conferences. In addition, he is active as a research mentor to WCM-Q's medical students. One of his active areas of research is the study of amyloid proteins modulation in neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes.
