Profile

Dr. Adam Larson joined Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar in 2012 as Lecturer of English as a Second Language. In this role, he teaches the First-Year Writing Seminar, an intensive writing course that teaches academic writing through disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. Dr. Larson received a Doctorate in Education from King’s College London, where his research involved the philosophy and sociology of education, and an MA in International Studies (Comparative Religion) and a BA in English and Linguistics from the University of Washington (Seattle).   

Prior to joining WCM-Q, Dr. Larson served as Communications Instructor and Writing Center Mentor at the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar. In this role, he taught courses in technical and business writing, and developed communications curricula for programs in engineering, health sciences, and information technology.

Dr. Larson was awarded Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships in both Arabic and Persian from the US Department of Education, and a Fulbright Fellowship from the US Department of State. As a Fulbright Fellow and research affiliate of the American Institute of Yemeni Studies, he explored the narrative construction of religious and social identity in the Hadhramawt Valley through historical accounts of a local pilgrimage. Additionally, along with his colleagues, Dr. Larson investigated key factors contributing to medical student choice of specialty and the formation of research identity. His current interests include the philosophy and sociology of education, youth transitions from school to work, practice-based professional learning, teacher and faculty development, and social theory.
