Mentorship Program Application

Pre-medical-Foundation & Alumni Mentorship Program Application

The Pre-medical Education Division is pleased to offer students the opportunity to join the Pre-medical-Foundation & Alumni Mentorship Program.

The program is an opportunity to provide encouragement to foundation and premedical students through mentor-mentee relationships with WCM-Q alumni. Mentors motivate and guide the participants, sharing their experience in medical school and the practice of medicine.

Goals

1.To cultivate a connection between WCM-Q students and alumni

2.To introduce student mentees to professionalism

3.To foster resilience of mentees for medical school success

4.To gain insights into the medical profession

5.To promote alumni engagement with students

Deadline to apply: For the upcoming cycle, please check your email for deadlines and requirements.

PROGRAM LENGTH

Fall and Spring semesters.

Mentors and mentees will be notified of their pairings. It is the responsibility of the mentees to initiate contact with their mentors. Early discontinuation of the program is strongly discouraged. However, if mentor or mentee can no longer participate, the remaining party may be paired with an alternative mentor/mentee.

ELIGIBILITY

All pre-medical and foundation students are eligible to be mentees. They must be in good academic standing and uphold the values of professionalism and academic integrity. Mentors are WCM-Q alumni who reside in Qatar.

GUIDELINES AND EXPECTATIONS

There will be a 1:1 pairing of mentees to mentors if possible. Both are expected to maintain professional and appropriate relationships. It is the responsibility of the mentees to initiate contact with their mentors and guide the communication throughout the year toward the goals for this mentoring program. This is an opportunity for mentees to practice networking skills that will be critical throughout medical school.

Mentees and mentors are expected to individually discuss and set goals for the year at the first meeting. These goals should include the year’s activities (see below) and a timeframe for completing them. At the end of the academic year (April/May), a survey will be conducted to evaluate the success of each relationship, and mentees will also submit a reflection on their experience. Certificates will be awarded for appreciation to the mentors and participation to the mentees in a closing event at the end of the academic year.

For students to obtain the program completion certificate at the end of the academic year, they need to submit the reflection paper and complete the survey.

Mentees are expected to complete a monthly check-in on Qlearn after each meeting and provide a summary.
