WCM-Q graduates highest number of Qatari doctors in its history.
At the Sheraton Doha, 34 doctors graduated from WCM-Q in 2018, which included 13 Qataris, the highest number of locals in the history of the university.
During proceedings, the honored students along with their families, friends, WCM-Q faculty and staff were enlightened by the words of WCM-Q Dean Dr. Javaid Sheikh who encouraged graduates to be bold and imaginative in their ambitions and also encouraged a return to Qatar once completing further studies abroad. He covered graduation as the highlight of the year and acknowledged the commitment shown by the Class of 2018. Along with his speech, Dean Sheikh also administered the Hippocratic Oath as the new graduates formally entered into their profession.
The event was graced with the presence of many eminent figures from Qatar, Qatar Foundation and Cornell University, these included; Dr. Augustine Choi, Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, and Dr. Martha Pollack, President of Cornell University, who also presented graduates with their degrees. 2011 WCM-Q graduate, Dr. Mashael al-Khelaifi, a consultant pediatric anesthesiologist at Hamad Medical Corporation was the keynote speaker and 2018 class speaker Fatima al-Maadid spoke about the privilege of having an education, the challenges the world faces and most importantly about graduates understanding that their roles in this world is not to be taken lightly. Dr. al-Maadid is pursuing a career in pediatric neurology with her training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. As a native of Qatar, she intends to return to Doha following completion of her training.
