Sidra

Qatar Foundation's Sidra Medical and Research Center (Sidra), will be among the finest and most technologically advanced in the world. Together with WCM-Q, Sidra is forming an academic medical center of world-class standards within Education City.

Sidra represents the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser who serves as its Chairperson. The high-tech facility will not only provide world-class patient care but will also help build Qatar's scientific expertise and resources.

Sidra will be a fully digital facility, incorporating the most advanced information technology applications in all its functions. Designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli, Sidra features a main hospital building and a separate outpatient clinic. The main hospital will initially have 400 beds with infrastructure to enable expansion to 550 beds in a subsequent phase.

Sidra opened its Outpatient Clinic on 1 May 2016 which offers outpatient services for women and children through a referral based system in partnership with other healthcare providers in Qatar. The Sidra Outpatient Clinic is expected to be fully operational by January 2017.

Optimal use will be made of technology in support of clinical, administrative and research functions in the all-digital facility. This includes the use of robotics and computer-aided surgery and diagnostics, advanced digital imaging, and integrated patient information systems.

It is envisaged that WCM-Q's faculty will combine teaching at the Medical College with clinical practice and research at Sidra, and our graduates may pursue further training and careers in the specialties of their choice there.

Sidra is also part of a dynamic research and education environment in Qatar and through strong partnerships with leading institutions around the world, Sidra is creating an intellectual ecosystem to help advance scientific discovery through investment in medical research.

Biomedical research will bring together Sidra, Weill Cornell in Qatar and the U.S., Hamad Medical Corporation, the National Health Authority and other potential affiliates to help build the nation's scientific expertise and resources through a coordinated research program. Three key areas have been identified as the focus of Sidra's research activities: pregnancy health and infertility, pediatric developmental and preventive health, and women's health.
