WCMC-Q Team Explores Accountability

February 2011

The winners of the latest round in WCMC-Q's Shared
Values competition Theresita Aquino, Andrew Torres,
Thomas Rooney, Anelle Bezuidenhout, John Doig and
Zumreen Muzamil.

While the concept of accountability involves many factors that make it hard to sum up, a team at WCMC-Q has done just that in a two-panel cartoon.

Members of the Facilities Management team at WCMC-Q—Zumreen Muzamil, John Doig, Andrew Torres, Anelle Bezuidenhout, Thomas Rooney and Theresita Aquino—submitted an illustration for the shared values competition, which includes the famous saying by Abraham Lincoln “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”

“In an office environment, many things happen,” says Muzamil, building services coordinator at WCMC-Q and lead mind behind the winning entry. “But the question often arises—who is responsible?”

Further on this point, Muzamil’s teammate, John Doig, director of facilities management, said that accountability keeps standards high, and encourages people to do as they should and not just as they please.

“If one person in facilities management fails, we all fail,” says Doig. “But we do admit when we are wrong.”

The Shared Values competition—based on seven professional concepts that encourage best personal and group performance—has been running at WCMC-Q for the past year. Each phase is based on a value, the latest being accountability.

The winning submission, and those from the past, can be viewed here.
