Susan H. Day, MD

Susan H. Day

President and CEO
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education - International (ACGME-I)
United States of America

After a 30-year career centered on the clinical practice of pediatric ophthalmology and medical education, Dr. Day joined the ACGME International team where she now serves as president and chief executive officer. Her interest in graduate medical education includes 20 years as program director and five years as her institution's designated institutional official with oversight of all residency programs. Leadership positions have included serving as the chair of the Ophthalmology Review Committee, chair of the ACGME Board, as well as president of the national membership, academic, and honor societies for her specialty. Her focus is on the development of medical education systems which assure competence of its graduates to practice independently upon completion of training. Internationally this focus has been applied in multiple places, including Singapore, Lebanon, and Haiti, reflecting the need to honor both rigor of educational content and inherent flexibility as required by country needs, resources, and cultures.
