Abdallah Tom is a senior medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. He is a ‘third culture kid’ who was born in Sudan and ,raised in the UAE. and He comes from a family of businessmen and entrepreneurs, which planted within him the seed of management and leadership. From an early age he has been fascinated by the brain and mind, humanity and society. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, and currently he aspires to become a psychiatrist and to integrate healthcare policy- making and mental healthcare advocacy on a national and international level. He has served as the president of the Medical Students’ Executive Council (MSEC) at Weill Cornell Medicine during which he embarked on a journey to address medical students’ mental health and burnout. He previously served as the President of the Qatar Medical Students’ Association, leading healthcare students in Qatar. He currently serves as the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region representing medical students across the EMR and serving the region. 

 

He has served and continues to serve on multiple committees relating to medical education and continues to advocate for his peers. He is passionate about global mental health which led him to begin working to improve access to mental healthcare in Sudan during the time of the Sudanese Revolution. He continues to work on improving access to mental healthcare in his Sudan. His prior experiences have shaped his passion for psychiatry and serving the community. He is passionate about social justice, gender equality, healthcare equity, universal health coverage and environmental sustainability.
