Julie Youm, PhD, is the Assistant Dean for Education Compliance and Quality and the Director of Educational Technology at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine (UC Irvine). Her recent work through UC Irvine’s iMedEd Initiative (http://www.imeded.uci.edu/) has focused on implementing effective uses of mobile technologies for medical education, including the iPad and Google Glass and virtual and augmented realities as well as leading faculty development efforts and student mentorship to explore effective integration of educational technologies into the medical school curriculum. She has presented her work at numerous conferences and serves on working groups/committees at the local, regional and national levels to share her experiences broadly.

Dr. Youm is also responsible for continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes and program assessment in the Office of Medical Education, including curriculum management, assessment, and evaluation. As a former software developer, her strengths include being able to identify opportunities for data integration/automation, serving as a liaison between organizational stakeholders and managing the efforts of technology and systems implementations for improving and monitoring both teaching and CQI efforts.

Youm received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Studies in Education from Columbia University and also holds an M.A. in Instructional Technology and an M.S. in Computer Science. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Irvine and has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator since 2015.
