Dr. Sonia Chaabane is an epidemiologist who serves as a Specialist, Population Health Research at the Institute for Population Health (IPH) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) and as an instructor in Population Health Sciences. She is responsible for developing and leading research and related projects on population health issues in the state of Qatar and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She has published several systematic reviews & meta-analyses in addition to primary studies. Dr. Chaabane also supports IPH’s population health educational and community awareness programs in Qatar. She is an active participant in educational workshops related to research methodology and evidence-based practice for healthcare professionals and in mentoring students as well as research staff. Dr. Chaabane serves in several scientific committees at the national level.

Prior to joining IPH, Dr. Chaabane served as a teaching assistant at the University of Montreal for the introductory and advanced epidemiology and applied research courses. She also worked as a technical official in pharmacovigilance with the Regulation and Prequalification Department of the World Health Organization’s (WHO).

Dr. Chaabane holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Quebec in Montreal, a Master’s equivalent degree and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, specialized in medication and population health, from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal/ CHU Ste-Justine Research Center, Canada.
