Dr. Mohammed H. Jarrar is the Senior Manager of the Biomedical and Health Program at Qatar National Research Fund, a position he has held since 2018. Previously he was associate professor and associate dean of biotechnological sciences at the University of Modern Sciences, Dubai, UAE.

He previously held at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, also in Baltimore, and the Betty and Guy Beatty Liver and Obesity Program at Inova Fairfax Hosptial in Fairfax.

Dr. Jarrar’s research and academic interests focus on the application of bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics and recombinant DNA technology to study obesity complications and metabolic disorders, mainly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Specific research topics focus on studying molecular and biochemical networks involved in the pathogenesis of liver diseases as metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and diabetes. His work also focuses on the application of current proteomics and genomics approaches to identify biomarkers for diagnosis and possibly as therapeutic targets. Dr. Jarrar has published a book about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and more than 35 peer-reviewed scientific papers in international journals, plus many abstracts and seminars at various international conferences. Additionally, he published a United States patent in 2013.
