We live in the age of ‘omics. A wide variety of tools serving biomedical research have undergone revolutionary advancements, permitting the routine collection of unprecedented amounts of information from biological systems; whole genome sequencing is a ubiquitous example. Despite these advancements, we have much to learn about the complex processes of life and what happens when they are disrupted. We’ve known for many decades that deciphering the wide and dynamic variety of proteins in our bodies is essential to advancing our biological knowledge. But the analysis of large numbers of proteins across many samples has been challenging and, in general, less accessible to many researchers compared to genomics and transcriptomics.

Aiming to simplify workflows and broaden the applicability of proteomics analyses, Olink developed the Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) platform, allowing for highly sensitive and exquisitely specific measurements of dozens to thousands of proteins in dozens to thousands of samples. From the inception, Olink took an open and collaborative approach to help the proteomics community grow and thrive. This is accomplished through selected research collaborations, participation in academic and industry consortia, and providing open access to analysis tools, an extensive proteomics knowledge base, and reference datasets. These strategies, plus adoption by key opinion leaders of the technology, have contributed to the rapid growth of independent research studies and peer-reviewed publications, demonstrating the use Olink’s proteomics platform across a wide range of therapeutic areas.
