Nelson escaped from the extreme cold climate of Northern Ontario, Canada and moved to a more tolerable cold climate of Southern Ontario to study Diagnostic Imaging. Seeking sun and warmth ever since, Nelson has lived and worked in Australia, Brunei, Canada, Singapore, Qatar as well as other Middle Eastern countries. With a career that spans nearly 30 years, and diverse professional experience, Nelson can share many stories of his unique Medical Imaging career and progressive leadership positions.

Currently, Nelson is the Chair and Interim Dean for the School of Health Sciences, College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNAQ). Nelson began at CNAQ in 2006, and  implemented the Medical Radiography Diploma program. He developed, evaluated and taught classroom and labs for the MR program, with the view to gain Canadian Accreditation. He oversaw competency based assessment, and expanded workplace partnerships so that students could gain clinical competence. In his current dual role with the leadership team in the School, he spearheads policy, provides guidance on day to day operations, and manages a team of over 50 faculty and support staff.  He has many held positions within the School of Health Sciences as Lead Instructor, Instructional Coordinator, Academic Chair and Interim Dean, and has an excellent understanding of technical and vocational education, experiential learning and post secondary education.

Nelson holds a diploma in Diagnostic Imaging from the Michener Institute, Canada. A Bachelor’s of Medical Imaging from Charles Sturt University, Australia and a Masters of Community Development and Emergency Management from Southern Cross University, Australia. He is registered and holds professional credentials with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists in the fields of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Medical Radiography, and is licensed in the State of Qatar.
