Laureano Simon, PhD
Laureano Simon holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Centro Nacional de Biotecnologia, CSIC). He also holds a M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the Universidad de Navarra and a M.Sc. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Laureano began his entrepeneurship career in 2000 with the foundation of the biotechnology company Progenika, which was successfully acquired by Grifols in 2013. He has also participated in the foundation of other biomedical companies, such as Oncomatryx and Sunrock, in Spain, or Patia, in Mexico, associated to billionaire Carlos Slim.
In 2016, Laureano expanded his entrepeneurship activity with the Foundation of Helenes Ventures, a Business Angel Fund. Partnering 50:50 with the European Investment Fund, Helenes is investing and coaching Spanish Biomedical Start-ups.
Dr. Simon has published numerous articles in scientific journals (Virology, Journal of General Virology, Rheumatology, Clinical Cancer Research, International Journal of Oncology, Clinical Chemistry, Journal of Urology, BJUI, Journal of Proteome Translational Research, Toxicology Letters, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, Nucleic Acids Research, PLOSone...). He is also an inventor in many biotechnology patents that have rendered a significant clinical impact. He advises various scientific committees, both in government institutions and private foundations.
He has received several awards throughout his career, such as the Eurowards European Entrepreneur Award in 2004, the Ernst & Young most innovative Entrepreneur of the year, in 2010, or the Ruban d'honneur of the European Business Awards - HSBC Bank, in 2011
