Prior to the Patients' Rights and Patient-Centered care movements, clinical communication was often framed as the ways that healthcare providers talked to patients. However, new competency frameworks and best practices emphasize patient encounters as dialogues between providers and patients. They additionally factor in families and the general public as partners in delivering the highest standards of care. In this panel discussion, three individuals provide their perspectives on what communication has meant for them as a patient, and how communication shaped their experiences and relationships with both practitioners and health care systems in Qatar and elsewhere. The panel is moderated by Sinead O'Rourke.
