Arfan Ahmed, PhD
Dr. Arfan Ahmed is an assistant professor of research in population health sciences at WCM-Q. He is also a fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, courtesy of an award from the International Medical Informatics Association.
Dr. Ahmed's academic journey began with a Ph.D. at the University of Hull, UK, where he applied software algorithms to predict chemotherapy response in breast cancer patients. He then made significant contributions at prestigious UK institutions such as Imperial College London, the University of Aberdeen, and the University of Birmingham, focusing on the development of decision support systems. In 2020, Dr. Ahmed managed the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven Health Chatbot project at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. In 2021, he joined WCM-Q as a research associate, where he spearheaded the inception of the AI Center for Precision Health and successfully brought the center to life.
Dr. Ahmed's research focuses on the application of technology in various medical fields, including mental health, and AI utilization for modern assessment. He has coauthored numerous original research articles, being the lead author on many of them. He frequently serves as a principal investigator in research and is currently is involved in several ongoing projects at WCM-Q, including investigations into the application of AI for health and education, and he collaborates with Hamad Medical Corporation.
In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ahmed collaborates with various discussion groups on AI research. He has also provided advice to many roundtable discussions, helping to formulate guidelines and established processes for using AI in healthcare research, with the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) of Qatar serving as official advisers to that grant. Furthermore, he serves as the center coordinator for the AI Center for Precision Health, overseeing its strategic initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations.
