Qatar, known for its world-class healthcare system [1,2], recognizes the significance of leveraging AI to enhance patient care, optimize clinical workflows, and improve healthcare outcomes. AI is a groundbreaking technology with the potential to revolutionize healthcare [3]. Qatar ministry of communications National AI strategy and vision outlines that AI will radically transform the way healthcare and medicine is practiced [4]. Therefore, it is imperative to provide healthcare professionals in Qatar with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilize AI in their practice.
Extensive literature supports the notion that AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by offering predictive analytics, personalized medicine, and efficient diagnosis and treatment methods. However, despite its promising benefits, healthcare professionals face several challenges in adopting and implementing AI in their practice. Research indicates a significant knowledge gap regarding the fundamentals of AI in healthcare, with professionals lacking an understanding of AI algorithms, data analysis techniques, and the ethical implications of AI implementation. This knowledge gap hinders healthcare professionals' ability to leverage AI technologies effectively, limiting their potential to deliver optimal patient care and contribute to healthcare system improvements.
Given the increasing prevalence and potential of AI in healthcare, it is crucial to initiate discussions and provide education on the fundamentals of AI to healthcare professionals in Qatar. By offering a CPD course specifically tailored to AI in healthcare, we can bridge the existing knowledge gap and equip healthcare professionals with the necessary competencies to navigate the evolving healthcare landscape.
The discussion on the fundamentals of AI in healthcare is of paramount importance due to the following reasons:
