Sadeer Al-Kindi, MD
Dr. Sadeer Al-Kindi is a physician-scientist and a practicing preventive and multi-modality cardiologist. He received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and went on to complete his training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was recruited to Houston Methodist in July 2023.
Clinically, Dr. Al-Kindi serves as a preventive and imaging cardiologist at Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, where he uses advanced imaging (cardiac CT and MRI) to guide interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk. He is the associate director for Cardiovascular Prevention and Wellness at Houston Methodist.
At Houston Methodist, Dr. Al-Kindi is also the associate director of the Center for Cardiovascular Computational and Precision Health, where he leads efforts to use computational approaches to understand individual susceptibility and resilience to environmental stressors. He is also the medical director for the Center for Health and Nature, a joint initiative with Houston Methodist, Texas A&M University, and Texans by Nature. Through his research, he aims to elucidate how the environment shapes cardiovascular health and disease.
As a researcher, Dr. Al-Kindi has published extensively on environmental determinants of cardiovascular disease, including nature access, neighborhood factors, built environment, air quality, and climate change. His research integrates unique approaches in big data, geospatial approaches, and data science to uncover novel environmental predictors of cardiometabolic disease, and to provide insights into urban design and heart-healthy city developments. He also focuses on improving healthcare sustainability and uncovering the impact of healthcare-related carbon footprints on health outcomes.
His research has also focused on issues related to environmental equity and justice. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications in top journals and is frequently invited to present on environmental health in national meetings. He is funded by the Jerold B Katz Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the California Air Resources Board. He is an associate editor (environmental health) for the Journal of American College of Cardiology Advances. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award (2020 and 2023), and currently serves in ACC committees. He also participated as a panelist, moderator, and the proceedings lead author on the 2023 NHLBI’s Exploring Research Opportunities at the Intersection of Planetary and Cardiovascular Health Workshop.
