Nasrin Mesaeli, PhD
Dr. Nasrin Mesaeli is an associate professor of biochemistry at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Physiology at the University of Manitoba, Canada, and completed postdoctoral training at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Alberta.
Dr. Mesaeli began her academic career at the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba and St. Boniface General Hospital Research Centre before moving to Qatar in 2010. Dr. Mesaeli’s research focuses on examining the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in the development of diseases, specifically lung cancer and metabolic syndrome. In the past, she developed transgenic mouse models of lung cancer and metabolic syndrome by targeting endoplasmic reticulum chaperones. Dr. Mesaeli uses molecular and cellular biology techniques to address her research questions. Her research is currently funded by National Priority Research Program grants from the Qatar National Research Fund. Previously, she received grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Dr. Mesaeli has trained eight graduate students and several medical students in research.
