Dr. Rami Alfarra is the air quality lead and acting director of the Environment Center at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Doha, Qatar. He has over two decades of international experience in atmospheric aerosols and their impact on air quality, climate change, and human health. Dr. Alfarra leads applied research at the interface of science and policymaking, focusing on air quality assessment, source attribution of air pollution, and their human health impacts. To date, he has participated in nearly 40 major national and international research collaborations and has 82 publications with more than 20,000 citations and a current H-index of 48 (Google Scholar) and 42 (Scopus).

Dr. Alfarra completed a Ph.D. in atmospheric science at the University of Manchester in the UK in 2004. He worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland from 2005 to 2008 and as a scientist at the UK National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and fellow at the University of Manchester from 2009 to 2021. He received the 2008 Swiss Academy of Sciences Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Award. Dr Alfarra was recently appointed to the Scientific Steering Committee of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry Project (IGAC).
